Senior Russian officer has warned that the conflict in Ukraine could escalate into a full-scale war in Europe and stated that the possibility of Moscow’s forces being involved in a new conflict is increasing “significantly”.
General Vladimir Zarudnitsky, head of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, made these comments in an article for the Defense Ministry publication “Military Thought”, the Russian news agency RIA reported today.
“The possibility of an escalation of the conflict in Ukraine – from the increase of those participating in “proxy forces”, which are used for military confrontation with Russia, to a full-scale war in Europe – cannot be ruled out,” the Russian general said, according to RIA.
“The main source of military threats against our state is the anti-Russian policy of the United States and its allies, who are waging a new type of hybrid war to weaken Russia in every possible way, limit its sovereignty and destroy its territorial its integrity,” Vladimir Zarudnitsky was quoted as saying.
“The possibility that our state will be deliberately dragged into new military conflicts increases significantly,” he stressed.
Zarudnitsky argued that changes should be made to the way Russia organizes its armed forces and security, RIA added, including putting more emphasis on responding to what he called friendly countries to ensure Russia’s own security. and to unite the whole of Russian society around its defense needs.
