Authorities that make up the National Civil Protection Commission announced the start of the Risk Mitigation Day, an initiative that seeks to reduce the impact of rains and other extreme weather events that may affect communities.
This day includes the cleaning of rivers and streams to the removal of debris and obstructions in drainage systems, the objective is to avoid flooding and possible material damage.
“The day is a firm commitment by the Government of President Nayib Bukele to reduce the impacts during extreme weather events. The first response teams will continue executing the response, so that Salvadoran families are safe,” added the director of Civil Protection, Luis Alonso Amaya.
The Civil Protection Operational Tactical Team, together with the personnel of the Fire Department and the Territorial Managers of the Ministry of the Interior, will be carrying out this day in areas classified as highly vulnerable. These actions plan to avoid river overflows and other effects of the rainy season.
“We join this effort that is part of President Nayib Bukele’s vision and we call on the population to carry out preventive actions in their homes. We are generating these devices, in order to carry out this management in favor of prevention to avoid problems that usually occur when it rains,” said the Fire Director, Baltazar Solano.
In addition, the authorities called on the population to join these preventive actions and carry out local actions such as ensuring that drainage systems are free of obstructions, avoiding throwing garbage in the streets, rivers and streams and opting for reusable products. to reduce the amount of waste that pollutes water bodies.
