Rising Threats Against Elected Officials: Recent Incidents and Government Response

A young resident of Poissy, aged 20, was arrested this Saturday. He had threatened to “suicide” the deputy of Yvelines (Renaissance) Karl Olive.

The man arrested had written this Saturday around 12:30 p.m. on Twitter: “I hate him, I’m going to kill him outside his house at 2:02 p.m.”. The deputy Renaissance, former mayor of Poissy, reacted on the same social network: “Another well-targeted and subtle death threat”.

“The police did the job and quickly identified him in the afternoon”explained Karl Olive to France Bleu Paris, indicating that the police found the author thanks to his IP address which belonged to his mother.

Karl Olive, guest of 12/13 from France 3 Paris Île-de-France, deplored the increase in these threats: “This is the third time in three years that I have been threatened with death”. According to him, “we must take these subjects head on”car “the elected officials who are affected, insulted, it is to damage the Republic”. Finally, he warns that his relatives like his family are also affected.

With one vote, the National Assembly rejected last February the socialist bill to ensure a meal at 1 euro for all students. This mechanism is currently reserved in university restaurants for scholarship students or students in a precarious situation.

According to Karl Olive, it is“one of the consequences of the gall poured out by LFI on the Crous by throwing the names of parliamentarians into the pasture”. “These people are totally unaware of the hatred they are spreading”believes the elected Renaissance. “It will end badly”he warns.
