On Wednesday, the Eyüp Sultan Bahçe DITIB Mosque in Bremen received a racist threatening letter – with a very clear message: “I’ll blow you all up,” the letter says, among other things. The perpetrator also wrote that this threat “should be taken seriously”. A male name and address should also be listed in the letter. According to the community, it is still unclear whether it belongs to the perpetrator. The police were notified.

Not an isolated case – perpetrator yourself?
At the beginning of September, another mosque in Bremen received a similar threatening letter. Here, too, the perpetrator wrote: “I am threatening to blow you all up because I hate all foreigners. This needs to be taken seriously.” The mosque community has filed a police report. Municipality CEO Ilker Kabadayı told IslamiQ that it was not the first time they received such a letter. “It won’t be the last time either,” said Kabadayı.
The message of the letters is identical in both cases. However, it is still unknown whether it is the same perpetrator.
Mosques are repeatedly victims of right-wing violence
A series of right-wing extremist threatening letters to mosques continues unabated and has occupied the police and public prosecutor’s office in Osnabrück for years. According to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior, more than 30 cases of threatening and insulting letters are now being investigated nationwide. There is still no trace of the sender.
Last year there were 569 attacks on Muslims and mosques in Germany. The perpetrators are predominantly right-wing extremists. The crimes recorded included hate speech on the Internet, threatening letters and personal attacks, but also damage to property and graffiti. 25 people were slightly injured and only one suspect was arrested.
