Rising Star Jérémy Béchu Making Waves in Pro Rugby: A Bright Future Ahead

the essential
The young third row has given himself the means to knock on the door of the pro team and seems to have a bright future.

When he was responsible for the Columérin training center before taking charge of the Colomiers Rugby forwards, Fabien Berneau was already impressed by “a young cadet who came to train very early, before everyone else, to get physical and bodybuilding, alone at that. You felt he was very determined.”

Five years later, the cadet has grown up a lot and this season, Jérémy Béchu is starting to show his nose among the pros where Julien Sarraute and Fabien Berneau did not hesitate to trust him from the start of the season. Established twice (at Grenoble and against Soyaux), entered into play five times, Jérémy Béchu did not disappoint on the third line where this flanker displays great qualities with the ball in hand.

During the match against Soyaux-Angoulême, the young Béchu seduced Michel-Bendichou’s audience with his ability to accelerate in the corridors with an ease and comfort which gave the Charente defenders a hard time. Undoubtedly the fruit of a move to VII with the Barbarians which allowed him to develop his reading of the game, his sense of movement and his ability to better manage duels. Last Friday, against the Vannes leader, he again lived up to the challenge, scoring the try which sealed the Columérin success.

A physique to develop

“It’s nice to achieve good performances,” said Jérémy Béchu shyly after the victory against the leader, happy with his success, he, the pure product of the club. “I admit that it’s quite strange when you enter the field. It’s been my dream since I was little to enter this pitch.” At 20 years old, he is on the rise and the Colomiers staff are banking on this player “whom we still need to train, he especially needs to develop physically”, admits Fabien Berneau. Because when it comes to gestures, address, speed and movement, Jérémy Béchu already has all the tricks up his sleeve.
