Shortly before the holidays, the young r&b singer Julianna (20) showed her debut single to friends, relatives, acquaintances and simply interested people in the Old Riga entertainment venue “Rīgas kirsis” – confidently, with ambition and without the slightest shadow of a shadow of success.
Julianna’s (full name Julianna Tīruma) debut single is called “What You Won’t Do”, and it is in the style of “r&b” and neo-soul that the young singer likes. The premiere of the song was accompanied by a small concert lasting about half an hour, during which Julianna introduced the audience to several r&b” classics for pearls (Janet Jackson, etc.). After casually “listening” to Julianna’s single, it became clear that the story will have a continuation – the girl’s vocal range is almost shocking, besides, she knows how to play with her voice or “jam” like a musical instrument at jazz and/or blues concerts. The singer also knows how to communicate with the audience very well, it’s a pity that at the premiere concert it was only in English.
It’s true, it’s not quite the case that this singer appeared out of nowhere: Julianna Tīruma initially studied classical music in depth, at the same time becoming aware of gospel music, which grew into jazz music studies. She has performed with blues, jazz, “r&b”, pop and gospel ensembles, sang backing vocals on Santa Schiller’s jazz album recording, is also the composer of Tom Kalderauska’s song “When It All Falls” submitted for the competition “Supernova 2023”, etc., but as a solo artist. What You Won’t Do” is the debut. It should be noted that her accompanying band and especially the pianist Gatis Brejers also sounded excellent at the concert.
“With this song, I want to encourage women not to be afraid to be vulnerable and tender in this harsh age.
