The number of animal abandonments has continued to increase at the SPA since the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. In June 2019, they were a little over fifty against 232 in 2023 at the same period. The refuges are saturated like that of Thionville. There are waiting lists for abandonment, the shelter not wanting to take in more animals if they cannot take care of them properly. So that the number of abandonments does not continue to increase in such a way, preliminary interviews are carried out with potential future owners.
