Airplane Ticket Prices Skyrocket as Long Weekend Approaches

Jakarta – Next week, there will be a long weekend, and the possibility of people going on vacation is expected to be very high. However, in response to this, airplane ticket prices have also skyrocketed.

The Jakarta-Bali route, which used to be a favorite holiday route for many people, has seen ticket prices soar to Rp. 1.4 million, compared to the usual range of Rp. 600-700 thousand.

The Indonesian government recently added joint leave on June 28 and 30, 2023, to welcome the national holiday of Eid al-Adha on June 29, 2023. This has created the opportunity for a long holiday next week, as July 1 and 2, 2023, fall on Saturday and Sunday.

According to monitoring by detikcom on Thursday (22/6/2023), flight ticket prices have started to experience an upward trend since Saturday, June 24, 2023, at online travel agents. The long weekend itself will start on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.

For Bali, which is a favorite holiday destination, the average price has been in the range of IDR 1 million and above since June 24. On that day, the average flight ticket price reached IDR 1.4 million, with the cheapest flight price offered by Trans Nusa at IDR 1.49 million.

The average daily ticket price dropped to around IDR 1.26 million on June 29. Trans Nusa offered the cheapest ticket at IDR 1.17 million, followed by Pelita Air at IDR 1.33 million, and Sriwijaya Air at IDR 1.35 million.

On June 30, ticket prices dropped to a range of under Rp. 1 million, specifically IDR 982 thousand. The cheapest ticket worth Rp. 977 thousand was offered by Super Air Jet. In July, prices are expected to return to the normal range of IDR 600-700 thousand.

The Jakarta-Yogyakarta route has also experienced an increase in airfare prices. The prices rose from the range of Rp. 400-600 thousand before the long weekend to Rp. 700-900 thousand.

However, the price movement for Jakarta-Yogyakarta flights is not as significant as the route to Bali. The price increase appears to have occurred on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, the day before the long weekend holiday. On that day, the average ticket price was IDR 799,000, with Lion Air offering the cheapest price at IDR 799,000.

The highest price increase occurred on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, with the average price for airplane tickets in the range of IDR 958 thousand. Lion Air offered the cheapest ticket at Rp. 958,000, followed by Super Air Jet at Rp. 979,000, and Batik Air at Rp. 988,000.

On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the average ticket price to Yogyakarta from Jakarta started to fall. The average ticket price was in the range of IDR 844 thousand, with Lion Air offering the cheapest ticket price at IDR 839 thousand, followed by Trans Nusa at IDR 870 thousand, and Super Air Jet at IDR 939 thousand.

Ticket prices continued to decrease on Friday, June 30, 2023, with the average ticket price returning to the level of IDR 600,000, specifically IDR 683,000. The cheapest price was offered by Pelita Air and Trans Nusa at IDR 683 thousand, followed by Lion Air at IDR 720 thousand.

As the long weekend approaches, it is advisable for travelers to plan their trips in advance and be prepared for the higher ticket prices.
