After the extremely high petrol prices of last year, things had calmed down a bit at the pump in recent months. Experts expect oil prices to rise again and you will notice this when refueling. We list the places where you can fill up your tank most cheaply.
After the invasion of Ukraine, prices shot through the roof. On March 10, 2022, the suggested retail price for a liter of petrol was 2.50 euros. On April 1, the government lowered the excise duty on petrol and diesel to compensate for the skyrocketing prices. As a result, the suggested retail price dropped to 2.25 euros.
Fortunately, since the end of the summer, the price has dropped further, to just under two euros. But since March 28 of this year, it has suddenly started to rise again. This Saturday, the national suggested retail price for Euro95 is 2.03 euros. Gasoline prices will continue to rise step by step in the near future, experts expect.
More expensive oil
This is because major oil-producing countries have decided to pump less oil.
This is what these countries are doing to restore the market. They fear that the demand for oil will decrease due to fears of a recession and a banking crisis. As a precaution, they produce less and therefore the price goes up.
Even more expensive from July 1
And that is not all. The excise duty reduction of 1 April last year will be gradually phased out from 1 July. This means that a liter of Euro95 will become 13.8 cents more expensive on 1 July. There is therefore a good chance that the price at many pumps will then rise above 2 euros.
Fortunately, in many places in Brabant you pay less than the recommended price. According to price comparator Independer, these are the 10 cheapest gas stations:
- Aers Zegge: €1.74
- Firebird in Geldrop: €1.74
- Sakko Klundert: €1.77
- Car Cart in Steenbergen: €1.78
- Tamoil Express in Steenbergen: €1,78
- Makro Best: €1.78
- Macro Breda: €1.79
- Esso in Dongen: €1.79
- Esso Express Eindhoven: €1,79
- Autofood from Hoof Geldrop: €1.79
Refueling is even cheaper in Belgium. For example, at the Tango in Baarle-Hertog you pay €1.66 per litre. The cheapest option in Brabant cannot yet compete with that, although the difference is smaller than a year ago.
The price in Germany is also below the Dutch level. In Nettetal, just across the border from Venlo, you pay €1.70 per litre.
And if you want to save even more, you can always take an electric bicycle. If you take a smart approach to this, you can charge it in the boss’s bicycle shed. This is usually free.
