(Reuters) – They rose in early trading on Thursday, as conflict in the Middle East keeps investors nervous about whether it could affect oil supplies in the region.
By 0000 GMT, crude futures rose 38 cents to 85.01 per barrel, and US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 46 cents to $80.90 per barrel.
Official media reported that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urged Islamic countries to stop oil and food exports to Israel, and demanded an end to its bombing of the Gaza Strip.
According to American data, Iran, a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), produced about 2.5 million barrels per day of crude in 2022.
