The road to normal is long, and the obesity rate among young children who lack physical activity has risen to about 20%
Dr. Ye Baiqiang, Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Sciences, Faculty of Clinical Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, and his research team found that the changes in living habits under the epidemic have greatly increased the obesity rate of children in Hong Kong, and the obesity rate of young children has increased by more than 30%, from nearly 15% to nearly 20%.
Ye Baiqiang pointed out that during the epidemic, children consume too much calories and sodium, which can easily lead to obesity and long-term serious problems such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular and diabetes, and lack of vitamin D and calcium will affect growth, development and learning. During the epidemic period, children lacked physical activity for a long time, their sleep habits were disordered, and they used electronic products for 7 to 9 hours a day. Their poor living habits were very worrying. Research also shows that the risk of child abuse has risen sharply during the epidemic, and children with chronic illnesses face extremely harsh environments. The team pointed out that positive parent-child support and positive parenting methods can effectively protect children and reduce the risk of abuse.
