Rising Number of Explosions in Rotterdam: Multiple Incidents Reported within Days

Two explosions took place in Rotterdam in the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The first was at a house on Cortenbachsingel in the southeast of the city. The occupant of the building suffered minor injuries. Around 3.15 am an explosive went off at a portico in the Erik Kropstraat in the Feijenoord district. No one was injured in the process.

In the Erik Kropstraat it was also hit earlier this week. In the night from Monday to Tuesday, an explosive device went off in another porch on that street. That same night there was also a large flame and then a small fire at a coffee shop in the Delfshaven district.

The sum of the number of explosions in the port city continues to rise. Despite more efforts by the police and boas and preventive body searches in a number of neighbourhoods, there are regular explosions or other acts of violence. For example, more than fifty explosions took place in the first four months of this year.

Last night an explosion also took place at a house in Katwijk. The house was damaged, according to police. The cause is still under investigation. There are no injuries.
