Travel agencies have observed a huge increase in interest in traveling to colder countries in August, including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Latvia and the Netherlands, the “Dailymail” portal reports.
According to the popular leisure travel booking site Expedia.com, hotel demand in Copenhagen has increased by 34% compared to last August.
A 45% increase was also recorded in Oslo, while in Stockholm hotel searches increased by 29% in August.
Referring to “Expedia.com” data, the portal reports “that in Riga, where this summer the air temperature reached +27 degrees, compared to +45 degrees registered in Spain, there is a 47% increase.
Flight search engine Kayak reported similar observations, with Amsterdam emerging as the most searched vacation travel destination this August and September.
Dublin, Belfast and Stockholm are also among the top ten destinations. The only “hot” summer holiday destination on the list is Istanbul.
Visit Finland has announced that flight bookings to Finland from London have increased by 23% from July to September compared to the same period last year, while flight bookings from Newcastle have increased by 28%.
It has already been reported that the southern part of Europe has experienced three strong heat waves this season. In some places in Greece, Italy, France and Spain, the temperature has reached +45 degrees.
The chief executive of TUI, the world’s biggest holiday travel company, predicted last week that Belgium and Poland could become the next most popular destinations for British tourists looking to escape extreme heat.
