Rising Gang Violence in Sweden: Young Teens Caught in the Middle

At the moment there is a brutal war between criminal gangs in Sweden. In the last week alone, six people have been shot and killed in Norway’s neighboring country.

The paradox is that young teenagers are in the middle of the conflict.

On Monday evening, 13-year-old Milo was killed.

He was found shot in the head outdoors in a residential area in Stockholm. His life was not to be saved, and no one knows why he was killed. At the time of writing, no one has been arrested.

Milo, who was in the 8th grade, was actually supposed to meet at Höglundskolan outside the Swedish capital this week. Instead, he became the third boy under the age of 15 to be killed in the past month.

– There are children who are blackmailed, and who are forced to commit serious crimes with threats of death, said National Police Chief Anders Thornberg, two days after Milo was found.

He believes that the violent crime of recent times lacks parallels.

– What has happened in the last few days shows the importance of continuing to stand up, increasing power and never giving up, he said at a press conference after four shootings in a few days in Uppsala – two of them with a fatal outcome.

“The Kurdish Reef”

In 2022, 64 people were shot and killed in the gang war. This year, the number is 37 – for now.

According to Aftonbladet’s sources, Milo was linked to the so-called Foxtrot network. They are known to use underage boys and, according to the police, are in conflict with another criminal gang, the so-called Dalennettverket. The two gangs are fighting for control of the drug trade in Stockholm and the Uppsala area.

The leader of the Foxtrot network has been named by the Swedish media, and is called Rawa Majid. He goes by the nickname “the Kurdish Fox”.

He is currently in Turkey, and is wanted internationally. He is suspected of financing and delegating the attacks from abroad.

According to SVT there is no prospect that he will be extradited to Sweden, and no sign that the Turkish authorities will attempt to apprehend him.

14-year-old found tortured

At the end of July, 14-year-old Mohammed was found tortured and killed in a forest outside Stockholm. In August, the same age Layth was found murdered.

According to Expressen, the two must have resold pistols they had received in the Foxtrot network.

The police say that the murders of Milo, Mohammed and Layth are directly linked to the gang war, and have a hypothesis that they were killed because they did not follow orders from the leaders of the gang.
