Just like the rising prices around the world, more and more video games launched by large publishers have increased in recent years from the traditional 60 to 70 US dollars. After publishers such as EA and Sony adopted the new prices, manufacturers followed suit, and Nintendo’s “The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom Tears” was finally put on the shelves for $70. Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive, the developer of “Warhammer 40,000: Warriors 2”, said in an interview with IGN, “While major game teams are looking for ways to reduce costs, the $70 price cannot be maintained for long.”
“I think as games get more and more expensive, $70 is going to be as extinct as the dodo. I don’t think that’s sustainable. Look, you guys remember when gamers were so excited about Cybertron? I think the final performance of that game was pretty good, but when players’ expectations are too high, the development team will invest a lot of money in the game, which brings many risks to the company behind the scenes. I I think the market will not necessarily shift towards lower quality development, but will start to look for ways to save costs.” Matthew Karch said

Warhammer 40,000: Warriors 2, developed by Saber Interactive, will also be released for $70, but Matthew Karch stressed that he didn’t want to choose that price either. The real challenge now is how to convince consumers that lower prices do not equal lower quality. He believes that the success of “Battlefield 2” is an excellent recent example. “Battlefield 2″ is ” “Middle market” example, and he also hopes that developers under Saber Interactive can serve as a reference for direction.
Matthew Karch also believes that artificial intelligence technology may become a key tool for 3A games to reduce development costs and improve quality. However, technology alone cannot completely solve the problem of excessive game development budgets. Saber Interactive is currently developing “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remastered Edition”, and Matthew Karch recently came out to emphasize that the game is still under stable development, even though the development team has officially separated from Embracer Group earlier this month.
