Monterrey.- Public health insurance in Nuevo León represents a poor option for paid workers, so more and more employers are turning to private services.
Using data from the National Occupation and Employment Survey of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), which was analyzed by Coparmex Nuevo León, it was found that from 2019 to 2023, the number of workers under the orders of an employer who have a private insurance as a labor benefit grew by 70 percent.
In Mexico, this percentage within the same period increased by 20 percent.
In the case of Nuevo León, four years ago there were 453,588 subordinate workers with this particular service, while today there are 768,171.
This last figure represents 35 percent of the total workers in the State who have life insurance or private medical expenses from their workplace, while at the national level the rate is 22 percent.
The director of the employers’ union in the entity, Cecilia Carrillo López, pointed out that increasing labor benefits is a normal trend after the economic blow of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide.
“Workers do not want to wait days to be treated in the public health system and they know of the current shortcomings that exist in the IMSS. Having private medical expenses insurance gives families peace of mind,” she declared.
Of the total paid workers who have private health insurance, 511,109 are men, and 257,062 are women.
Carrillo López said that it is no longer so easy to recruit workers in the labor market, which forces companies to integrate methods such as offering more benefits to attract and retain talent.
