Rising Death Toll and Presidential Support: Updates on the Israel-Hamas Conflict and Reassurance for American Jews

The US State Department announced on Wednesday that the death toll of American citizens confirmed dead in the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has risen to 22 people.

The latest toll represents an increase of 8 victims compared to the last confirmed death toll one day ago.

Reassuring American Jews

The US President will deliver a speech on Wednesday during a roundtable with representatives of American Jews in the United States, after he expressed over the past few days Washington’s firm support for Israel after the Hamas operation.

The White House confirmed that Biden will stress to the participants his “steadfast support” for Israel in the wake of the attacks carried out by Hamas, and will address his “battle against anti-Semitism.”

Biden will be accompanied by Dag Emhoff, the husband of his deputy Kamala Harris, who is Jewish and is greatly involved in communicating with Jews in the United States.

The Democratic President confirmed, on Tuesday, that police forces had “strengthened security measures” around places where members of the Jewish community gathered in American cities.

He added that the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are “working closely with local security forces and their partners in the Jewish community to detect and prevent any threats that may arise (on American soil) after these terrible attacks.”

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced that Biden would gather his national security team during the week to specifically discuss these issues.

He stressed that the White House wants to “ensure that we will not witness an escalation of anti-Semitic actions” in the wake of the unprecedented attack launched by Hamas on Israel.
