Rising Concerns for Teacher Safety in Parisian Schools: Share Your Story and Thoughts With Us

The concern is palpable. On Monday, around 150 heads of Parisian establishments gathered in front of the Sorbonne in Paris in support of the principal of the Maurice-Ravel high school, who was threatened with death on the internet after asking a student to remove her veil. And according to statistics from the Ministry of National Education, reports of serious incidents in establishments, mainly verbal and physical violence, increased in 2022-2023 compared to the previous year (13.7 serious incidents per 1 000 students compared to 12.3). In primary education, 52% of victims of violence are teachers and in secondary education, they represent 27% of victims.

If you are a teacher, do you practice self-censorship in your classes? If so, what topics do you avoid? Do the measures taken by National Education to strengthen respect for secularism and to better protect teachers seem sufficient to you?

You can testify in the form below. Your testimonies will be used to write an article. Thanks in advance.
