Jakarta –
Cases of monkey pox or monkeypox (mpox) in DKI Jakarta continue to increase. As many as 500 people from risk groups have begun to undergo cash vaccinations carried out by the DKI Jakarta Health Service.
“Vaccination will begin to be carried out for 500 people from risk groups in Jakarta over the next week,” said Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, Ngabila Salama, as reported by detikNews, Tuesday (24/10/2023).
Ngabila explained that currently 1,000 doses have been prepared. Each will receive two doses of the vaccine in stages.
“2 doses are given to 1 person, 4 weeks apart. Because currently the stock of monkeypox vaccine in Indonesia is 1,000 doses for 500 people,” he explained.
The DKI Health Office will continue to monitor symptoms in close contacts of cases every day by sub-district health centers.
“When symptoms appear, a laboratory examination is performed,” he said.
Every positive case found will be immediately isolated in hospital to break the chain of transmission.
“Even though the case is mild (it is still isolated),” he added.
Previously, cases of monkey pox in Jakarta increased to 10 positive cases. A total of nine monkey pox patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital. One other case has been declared cured.
“DKI Jakarta monkeypox update as of October 24 2023 at 10.00 WIB. Total positive cases are 10 people,” said Ngabila.
The first positive case of monkey pox was discovered in August 2022. On October 13 2023 there was an increase of one case, October 19 2023 an increase of one case, October 21 2023 an increase of 5 cases and October 23 2023 an increase of 2 positive cases.
