Rising Cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in South Sulawesi – Makassar Contributes the Most

TRIBUN-TIMUR.COM, MAKASSAR – The South Sulawesi Health Service (Dinkes Sulsel) continues to evaluate the spike in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases.

Of the 24 regencies/cities in South Sulawesi, Makassar is the largest contributor to cases with a total of 100 cases in the last three months.

The total from 24 regencies/cities reached 629 cases and two of them died due to dengue fever.

Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division (Kabid P2P) of the South Sulawesi Health Office, Yusri Yunus, said that a dirty environment coupled with recent hot weather could increase the number of dengue fever in each area.

“Especially if cold air like this plus dirty air can have an impact,” he said when contacted, Monday (16/10/23).

As Yusri said, the prevalence of dengue fever can be seen in the number of areas and slum environments.

“Because of dengue fever, we cannot carry out epidemiological investigations, more precisely because sometimes mosquitoes bite us at school when we come home with a fever, or it could be where we play,” he said.

“So we have to find out where the child was playing, so there will be an investigation. As a result of that investigation, we will then carry out a case at the Puskesmas,” added Yusri.

For example, continued Yusri, in Makassar City there have been several places that have been cleaned.

“This also includes the Governor’s circular ordering the entire provincial environment to clean office areas every Friday,” he said.

This is done to prevent an increase in dengue cases.

“That is one step to prevent dengue fever because the point is that dengue fever occurs in an unclean environment,” he explained.
