An agreement between the trade unions and the management board of Polska Press, according to the Wirtualnemedia.pl portal, assumes pay raises for employees in the amount of PLN 250 gross. They are to be paid by mid-year. This is not the end, however. All employees will receive a special, one-time award of PLN 1,000. An additional bonus is to be a PKN Orlen shopping card worth PLN 500.

Recall that Orlen bought one hundred percent of the shares in Polska Press at the end of 2020. The previous owner was the German Verlagsgruppe Passau. – Access to 17.4 million users of portals managed by Polska Press will effectively strengthen sales of the entire ORLEN Group, optimize marketing costs and enable further development of big data tools – such a controversial transaction was justified at the time by President Daniel Obajtek.

Although a year has passed since the purchase, the matter is not formally completed yet. The Ombudsman requested the Court of Competition and Consumer Protection to suspend the execution of the decision of the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection regarding the takeover of Polska Press by PKN Orlen. Although the court accepted this request, – as reported by “Press” – so far it has not set the date of the hearing at which it will consider the complaint of the Human Rights Defender.

The Ombudsman argued his application at the time that the President of UOKiK had not examined whether the takeover would result in “unacceptable restriction of press freedom”.

However, this did not prevent the Registry Court from entering it into the National Court Register PKN Orlen as the sole shareholder of Polska Press. Since then, a lot has changed in the company, a lot of personnel changes have been made, e.g. the heads of regional newspapers have changed.

The portfolio of Polska Press includes nearly 120 local weeklies, a free newspaper and magazines. Polska Press also has 23 regional news and thematic websites. The company also owns 6 printing houses. According to the Wirtualnemedia.pl portal, at the end of 2021, employment at Polska Press was 1,827 jobs. That’s 5.1 percent. total human resources in the Orlen group.
