It has been found that the number of young people working as fresh managers at hy (formerly Korea Yakult), affectionately called ‘Yakult lady’, is increasing every year.

According to Hy et al. on the 1st, the number of new Fresh Managers in their 20s and 30s, which was only 22 in 2017, has now increased to 591. Among the approximately 11,000 Fresh Managers currently active nationwide, 80 are in their 20s and 511 are in their 30s, with those in their 20s and 30s accounting for 5.4% of the total.

Changes in perceptions and values about the job are considered to be the main reasons for the influx of young women into Fresh Manager, which was previously perceived as a job for middle-aged women. There is also an analysis that it fits the demand of young people who are seeking a breakthrough through small-capital start-ups, as employment opportunities have narrowed since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

Fresh Manager is characterized by a low barrier to entry as there is no initial cost and no education or experience is required to join the company. The only information to be included in the application form is your name, mobile phone number, age, and place of residence. However, only women can apply. In addition, the fact that you can flexibly adjust your work hours as you wish, allowing you to combine other work or freely pursue self-development, childcare, and hobbies, is also a popular factor among young people who value work-life balance.

Recently, cases of women working as fresh managers while attending college or after retiring from other jobs have been featured on YouTube and are receiving more attention.

Fresh Manager Kwak Bada (26), who identified himself as a college student, said on a YouTube channel, “I liked the fact that I could exercise in the morning and spend the afternoon and evening freely,” adding, “I have experienced various part-time jobs, but I don’t know how to utilize my time well.” It’s nice to be able to do it. “It’s not far from the branch, so I can go to school right after work,” he explained.

Regarding the reason why he chose to become a Fresh Manager even at a young age, Kwak said, “The biggest issue is making a living. “I have to feed myself and raise a cat,” he said. “In my early 20s, I drank all the time, skipped school, and played a lot, but now I’m living my life to the best of my ability. “I want to continue doing this job as long as I can,” he said.

Each Fresh Manager registers as a sole proprietor and takes about 20-25% of monthly sales as profit. It is said that there are many people who earn high incomes because they have a pay-as-you-go structure. Mr. Kwak said, “I go to work around 7:30 a.m. and leave around 11 a.m. “I earn over 1 million won a month just by working for about 3 hours a day on weekdays,” he said. “There are also people who make over tens of millions of won in sales.”

In fact, Kwon Na-yeon (24), who recently broke the sales record of more than 10 million won, said, “I go to work at 6:30 a.m. and work until about 8:30 p.m. It’s hard, but I’m happy because I can make money.”

Mr. Kwon said, “I worked in the food section of a supermarket, did a short-term part-time job at a factory, and tried many different things, and I thought that I would be best as a fresh manager, where I could earn as much as I could.” He added, “Rather than being embarrassed by people, “I thought, let’s live to the best of our ability instead of causing harm,” he said. He then smiled and said, “It’s fun to have a job where I meet people,” and “I want to eat Jjang with Yakult.”

Mr. A (30), who has been working as a Fresh Manager after graduating from Yonsei University, recently appeared on a YouTube channel and revealed his daily life, saying that he started working as a Fresh Manager about two months ago. Mr. A said, “After graduating from college, I worked in marketing at a general company, and while I was thinking about what to do after leaving the company, I thought I wanted to do something related to health, so I started this job.”

He emphasized, “I have actually become much brighter and healthier both internally and externally,” and added, “It is romantic and positive to laugh and cheer on customers as they start the morning together.” Regarding the difference from an office job, he explained, “In this job, you earn as much money as you put in,” and “In a regular job, the salary is fixed, but in our job, you can earn a little or a lot.”

Mr. A, who said that many customers are amazed to see him, said, “As I started this job, I met people from so many different professions. “When I saw people living passionately regardless of their occupation, I realized that there is no such thing as a noble profession,” he said, adding, “I felt that truly cool people are not determined by their profession.”
