Poultry prices
Written by Sherine Salah:
Abdel Aziz Al-Sayed, head of the poultry division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, told Masrawy that poultry prices jumped by 18 pounds this week, compared to last week’s prices.
Al-Sayed added that the average price of a carton of eggs rose to 120 pounds on the farm last week, compared to 102 pounds last week, to be sold in the markets to the consumer for 130 pounds.
Al-Sayed explained that the increase in egg prices occurred over the past few days for no apparent reason, despite the decline in the prices of feed materials.
Egypt produces about 1.6 billion birds annually, and this production achieves self-sufficiency by about 95%, and the gap between production and consumption does not exceed 5%, according to previous data from the Poultry Division.
The rise in feed prices and the import crisis over the past year caused a shortage in the supply of poultry and eggs and a significant jump in their prices.
