Kochi: The High Court granted parole to Ripper Jayanand, accused in various murder cases including the double murder case. Meanwhile, Ripper Jayanandan was arrested in December 2021 after more than a decade and a half of investigation in the case of killing a seventy-four-year-old woman and her relative Narayana Iyer (60) near the Ponekara Sri Krishna Temple. The murder took place on May 30, 2004. Jayanandan stole 44 gold ornaments and 15 grams of silver coins from the house where the murder took place. The police also found that the elderly woman was sexually assaulted. He shared the information about the Ponekara murder with his fellow inmates.

Meanwhile, Ripper Jayanandan was in the news for jumping out of jail twice. In 2013, he first escaped from Poojapura Central Jail. At night, he escaped by cutting the lock of the cell with an axo blade. Pillows and beds were placed in the cell in the shape of a human so that the information would not be known immediately. For maintenance, the bamboo and other timber kept in the prison premises were tied together with cloth to make a ladder and jumped over the prison wall.

Jayanandan had jumped from Kannur Central Jail 3 years before jumping from Poojapura. He was starved and thin to cross the ditches and survived that day. Even when he jumped in Kannur, he took a fellow prisoner for help.
