Commander of Kodam XVII/Cenderawasih TNI Major General Izak Pangemanan emphasized that the riots that occurred on Thursday (28/12) during the procession to deliver the body of the former Governor of Papua Lukas Enembein Jayapura masterminded by members of the KNPB and ULMWP.
KNPB and ULMWP are organizations that are fighting to separate Papua from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
“KNPB and ULMWP members rioted when the body was delivered from STAKIN Sentani, Jayapura Regency, to the deceased’s residence in Koya Tengah, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City,” said Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih Major General TNI Izak Pangemanan after a meeting with the community at Makodam XVII/Cenderawasih at Polimak, Jayapura, Friday (29/12).
He stated that members of the KNPB and ULMWP infiltrated and joined the crowd accompanying the body’s journey, causing the throwing and burning of buildings and vehicles.
As a result of the throwing action, members of the TNI-Polri were injured, including the Acting Governor of Papua, Ridwan Rudalamun.
“Even our facilities in Waena, such as shophouses and dormitories, were destroyed by fire,” said Izak.
Izak emphasized that both TNI and Polri members were not provoked and continued to carry out measured law enforcement actions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
“The security forces will thoroughly investigate cases of beatings and arson,” said Izak.

The body of former Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe, Friday afternoon (28/12), was buried in the yard of his residence located in Koya Tengah, Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, Papua.
Lukas Enembe died, Tuesday (26/12), at Gatot Subroto Army Hospital, Jakarta.
