Wamena –
As many as 12 people died due to riots in the City Wamena, Jayawijaya, Papua Mountains. In the aftermath of the riot, 16 members of the police were questioned by propam.
“There have been 16 police officers who have been questioned by Propam. Of course there will still be more, because in the field there are many members and we will examine their respective roles in detail,” said the Head of the Papua Regional Police, Inspector General Mathius D Fahiri as quoted from detikSulselMonday (27/2/2023) evening.
Fakhiri said that his party would examine some of the evidence to see the role of each police officer in the field. Including one of a number of amateur videos circulating. He will evaluate whether the handling of the riots in Wamena is according to procedure or not.
“I have asked for detailed facts and data on the ground so that this will be a thorough evaluation of how the implementation of the security duties must be carried out in handling the masses. And of the members who are being examined, of course we will see from the results of the inspection and the supporting facts that we get,” he insisted.
Meanwhile, 13 civilians who were arrested have now been repatriated. However, if later they are found guilty, legal action will be taken.
“Of course we already have their data, so we will see their respective roles. If later we are directly involved or play an active role in carrying out provocations, then we will take legal action,” he said.
