There was a riot. The police were on duty with about 200 officers.

Right-wing extremists marched through downtown Vienna on Saturday. The demonstration started in front of the Albertina in Vienna’s inner city at 3 p.m. Anti-fascists protested against the demo of the Identitarians, chanting chants like “Nazis out”. They repeatedly slowed down the main demonstration with sit-ins.

As videos on Twitter show, there were also clashes between the police and the identities, who threw objects at the officers. The anti-fascist groups tried to break through the bars of the executive. Those present assume around 500 participants in the demo of the right-wing extremists.

“Kickl drives FPÖ further into the right corner”

Criticism came from the ÖVP in the run-up to the demo. “Herbert Kickl is driving the FPÖ further and further into the right corner. The announced joint demonstrations of the Identitarian movement with functionaries of the FPÖ youth leave little doubt about the radical nature of the Kickl-FPÖ,” said the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker, referring to the announced participation of the FPÖ youth in an Identitarian march.
