Riots in Iraq due to Burning of Koran in Sweden and Denmark: German Defense Minister Cancels Trip

There are riots in Iraq because of the burning of the Koran in Sweden and Denmark. The German defense minister decided to refrain from visiting.

“For security reasons, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’ trip to Iraq was canceled at the last minute on Sunday,” Spiegel said, citing the defense ministry.

The publication clarified that the decision was made on the recommendation of the Federal Criminal Police Office due to riots at the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad and attacks on Danish refugee agencies in Basra province. The security services do not rule out that the attacks may also spread to representative offices of other Western countries.

“Pistorius intended to meet with Bundeswehr soldiers stationed in Baghdad on Monday, and a meeting with an Iraqi counterpart was also scheduled,” Spiegel said.

The day before, members of the Danish Patriots nationalist group set fire to a copy of the Koran in front of the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen and desecrated the country’s flag while simultaneously broadcasting it on social networks. Previously, the Koran was burned in Sweden.
