Riots in France The impact of the shooting of a 17-year-old boy by the police never subsides. French President Emmanuel Macron also canceled his visit to Germany due to the hot situation in a number of these cities.
As reported by CBS News, BBC and CNN, Sunday (2/7/2023), riots in France happened four days in a row. Mobs looted in several areas of France.
The widespread rioting was sparked by the suspicion that a 17-year-old teenager was shot dead by the local police. As many as 4,500 police personnel have not been able to quell the anger of the masses.
Crowd Clash with Police
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted late Saturday that 200 riot police would be deployed in the port city of Marseille. Crowds took to the streets of cities and towns, clashing with police, despite Macron’s appeals to parents to keep children at home.

Macron Cancels Visit
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s office said Macron on Saturday had asked to postpone a French president’s first state visit to Germany in 23 years. Macron is scheduled to fly to Germany on Sunday evening for visits to Berlin and two other German cities.
“Given the internal security situation, the President (Macron) said he would like to stay in France over the coming days,” Macron’s office said while speaking to Steinmeier.

Looting also occurred at a number of businesses in the city of Marseille, including a weapons shop. About 30 young people broke into the shop and stole four hunting rifles. No ammunition was stolen and police have arrested one person. The police have now guarded the gun shop.

“We have crossed a line. We have never seen anything like this here before and this is very concerning,” a member of the Rhône regional police was quoted as saying by BFMTV.
