Riots at protest against 2G policy in Rotterdam | Inland

That is what a police spokesperson told the NOS. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on the Coolsingel in Rotterdam on Friday evening. They protested against the so-called 2G policy that the government is aiming for, whereby people only receive a corona ticket if they have been vaccinated or cured. The demonstration then turned into riots.

Protesters set off fireworks and fires were set in the street, police said. Police cars and street furniture are also said to have been destroyed. Social media also shows images of a police car that is said to have been set on fire. Police also deployed a water cannon to disperse the crowd.

Rotterdam Central closed

The police have closed Rotterdam Central station and a metro station. Due to the riots, there are no trains running to and from Rotterdam Central Station, NS reports. Signs above the A20 ring road near Rotterdam and on local roads warn motorists to avoid the center of Rotterdam due to the situation.

A journalist is also said to have been attacked by rioters, but the spokesperson could not confirm this yet.

Earlier in the day, social media had already called for a demonstration against 2G. A spokeswoman for the municipality said that the demonstration had not been reported.
