Riots and Violence at Rhine Derby: 200 Suspects Identified and Surrounded by Police

There were riots during and after the Rhine derby. The police have surrounded around 200 suspected violent perpetrators from the 1.FC Cologne fan environment. They are said to have previously attacked police officers.

The police have closed the main street on the south side of the stadium to departing traffic and are guarding the men, mostly dressed in black, with strong forces in riot gear. The group had previously attacked emergency services and thrown bicycles, branches and pyrotechnics at them. According to the police, the ringleaders have been identified and the police are taking down their personal details.

In the stadium there were fights in the guest block in the upper tier during the game. A steward was seriously injured. A suspected perpetrator, who was immediately identified, had beaten him unconscious.
