It is not possible to play Wild Rift from outside the test area.
Game developers are aware that by making the game available only for a specific region, players will try to gain access using a VPN. It was no different with the Wild Rift. The mobile version of League of Legends is quite popular. The game was supposed to enter the global beta by mid-2020, but just before its end, only a handful of willing players have access to it.
Why was a similar decision made?
The main problem faced by the developers are server limitations that prevent them from letting in more players than planned. As players from all over the world flock to the beta servers, they can fall under a huge strain. This is why the developers decided to block access via VPN.
In the last post, the developers addressed the problem of server overload resulting from the mass influx of players using VPN.
In order to give you the best gaming experience possible, we are forced to make a few changes to the VPN login policy of all our games, mainly for Wild Rift.
More and more players want to play the Wild Rift beta. Much more than we expected… While monitoring the gaming experience, we noticed a number of gaming issues involving players who used a VPN to log in from outside the beta regions. These issues range from inconvenience (such as language barriers) to gameplay-disrupting issues (such as, for example, ping spikes that prevent the game for everyone – not just VPN players).
We investigated ways to protect the gaming experience for the largest number of players, and concluded that the best solution is to deny access immediately to players using a VPN who are not in the beta testing area.
We really don’t like cutting off access to the game for anyone, but we believe this is the only possible move at this point in time to ensure that players who should be able to enjoy the tests have the smooth gameplay that was intended for them.
The developers do not plan to block access to everyone using VPNs. They only select regions where they have noticed very high traffic on the Wild Rift servers. Moreover, players residing in the beta testing region using VPNs will also not be blocked from accessing Wild Rift servers.
