There were attacks on the police on Friday and Saturday.
The potential for aggression increases. Young men attacked police officers in downtown Frankfurt two nights in a row. On Sunday night, around 10:45 p.m., they attacked a police patrol with stones, bottles and eggs. The action shifted to the Hauptwache, where around 500 to 800 people had gathered without complying with the Corona regulation. They also threw bottles and eggs at other police officers. The police arrested nine suspects in total. Eight of them had to be released for lack of grounds for detention. A 17-year-old who was known to the police, however, stayed overnight in the bureau and landed before the judge on Sunday.
Troublemakers had already attacked a police patrol on the Zeil on Friday night. Officials had come to settle a dispute, but it escalated. The police officers had to flee first. The investigation now led to an 18-year-old suspect.
The Frankfurt police chief Gerhard Bereswill condemned the riot on Sunday as “unbearable”. The colleagues work daily for the protection and security of the citizens, said Bereswill. The police no longer accept the repeated attacks.
In Darmstadt-Eberstadt a police car was pelted with guns on Saturday afternoon. The police provisionally arrested 23 people, most of them minors. Bangers were found in one person during a search. Page F5 / F13 sky / jjo
