Riot Games Sues Chinese Tech Giant NetEase Over ‘Copying’ Valorant – Video Games – News

Riot Games, best known for games League of Legends and Valorant, is suing Chinese tech company NetEase because the game Hyper Front “copies substantial parts of Valorant”. This would include similarities in weapons, characters and maps.

Against Polygon says Dan Nabel, lawyer of Riot Games, that “all of our creative decisions are reflected in the game of NetEase”. The study cites several similarities. In addition to characters, maps, weapons, skins and similar trinkets, it would also affect weapon stats. After an initial complaint from Riot Games, NetEase made some changes to the game, but not enough according to Riot.

The charges were filed Oct. 21, but won’t be filed until December brought out. Riot Games is taking the case to courts in the UK, Germany, Brazil and Singapore. Riot Games has previously sued a Vietnamese game maker due to a copy of League of Legends. PUBG Corp. also previously charged NetEase with two mobile games that infringed on PlayerUnknown’s: Battlegrounds.

Hyper Front is a free-to-play shooter for Android and iOS where teams of five compete against each other in different game modes. The game was released in July of this year. Valorant has already been released in 2020 for PC and Riot Games is currently working on a mobile version. The game is seen as one of the most popular online multiplayer games of the moment.
