Riot Games’ FPS is inspired by Counter-Strike, Overwatch and Apex Legends

Riot Games wants to establish itself on the FPS market with a tactical shooter that will mix several functionalities from different popular titles.

Unveiled during ten years of the League of Legends license, Project A from the American studio Riot Games has been approached in recent weeks by influencers, content creators or even professional players and esports casters so that the developers can have precise and constructive advice to improve this new creation. The feedback from participants in private sessions is almost unanimous, Project A is compared to Counter-Strike, Overwatch and Apex Legends for several reasons :

  • Two teams of five players must drop a bomb or defend an area over several rounds, the principle of attack-defense
  • Killing opponents and winning rounds allows teams to raise money to buy better weapons and equipment at the start of each game.
  • A head shot can turn into a direct elimination (powerful weapon in possession)
  • Characters with unique abilities, special moves can be purchased at the start of each round
  • Special abilities should not be an essential part of the game
  • The classes and abilities of the heroes would be mainly there to accentuate the strategic aspect

Adrien “ZeratoR” Nougaret, one of the figures of the streaming, and one of the guests of the event, besides declares : “For me, the game is much more oriented for the CS player than for the player of Fortnite or Overwatch (…) It’s frankly like CS gameplay level. 5 against 5, you do not respawns until the round is finished, you must put or defuse the bomb … On the map that we tested, there was not A and B in bomb site, but A , B and C. This forced the CT to play not in 3-2 but in 1-2-2 for example (…) The time to kill is very comparable to CS, there are weapons that will kill in a bullet (…) The feeling of the weapons was really like CS, but everything else is different (…) Someone who does not use powers at all, but aims better than the other will have the advantage. On the other hand, in a 5 against 5 team, when we played against a Rioters team, we were all aiming better than them, but because they knew the map and the spells better, they atomized us.

Project A beta could take place in March

According to Depor Play, who would have talked to Juan José Moreno, communications manager for Riot Games in Latin America, about Project A, beta is expected to arrive by next month : “He told us that they plan to launch the first beta of Project A in March (possibly the 3rd). We remind you that on the 2nd, there is another NDA for those who were able to try the game.
