MALAGA, 7 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Malaga municipality of Riogordo will once again celebrate this Week, specifically Friday and Holy Saturday, its traditional Paso, in a venue already with a full capacity of up to 4,000 spectators. This is the 71st edition.
The Diputación de Málaga once again promotes this event, one of the most outstanding religious events in the country and which has been declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest in Andalusia and Spain, a Festival of Provincial Tourist Singularity, and which last year received the Prize for the Malagueña Culture ‘Antonio Garrido Moraga’ of the provincial institution.
The provincial deputy Francisco Oblaré together with the mayor of Riogordo, Antonio Alés; the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Tourism, Sagrario Molina, and the president of the El Paso Association, Emilio Sánchez Pascual, presented this event at a press conference.
El Paso has more than seven decades of history and is “one of the hallmarks of the province during Holy Week, as well as an important tourist attraction for the municipality”, highlighted the deputy, who recalled that the site where The representation is developed was rehabilitated by the Provincial Council in 2020 with an investment of 235,000 euros, and which can be visited throughout the year.
The deputy mayor explained that, although there are vestiges that date back to the 17th century, such as proclamations that were recited in the Parish Church during Holy Week, El Paso as it is known today began in 1951. “From then until today It has not only survived, but has grown thanks to the contribution of all the people who have passed through it. There is not a family in this town that does not have or has had someone working on the staging, since more than 500 actors are involved fans of the municipality”, he exposed.
Last year El Paso celebrated its 70th anniversary, but the pandemic forced it to be postponed until July. Being the middle of summer, the performance was at night and was limited to 800 spectators to respect the health security measures in force at that time. This year 2022 the traditional representation is resumed and the venue will reopen with its full capacity of 4,000 spectators.
The performance will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will consist of 17 scenes: ‘Sacrifice of Isaac’; ‘Encounter of Jesus with the Samaritan Woman’; ‘Sermon on the Mount. Election of the apostles’; ‘Repentance of Mary Magdalene’; ‘Peter is appointed Primate of the Church’; ‘Healing a blind man’; ‘Triumphal entry into Jerusalem’; ‘Jesus takes leave of his mother, the Virgin Mary’; ‘Last Supper’; ‘Judas sells the Master of him’; ‘Prayer in the Garden of Olives. THE ENCLOSURE
The representation takes place in an 8,000 square meter enclosure that was rehabilitated in 2020 by the Provincial Council, which invested 235,000 euros in works that served to build a new cover, expand the main access façade, build a new enclosure with more suitable materials , demolish the decorative stone and wood bridge and build a new one with a water recirculation system, and carry out small works on the different porticoes to improve their deteriorated aesthetic appearance.
The lighting throughout the venue was also reinforced with lower energy consumption bulbs and lights were installed to highlight unique elements and to create ambient and decorative lighting, and a booth was built to control the sound and public address system during the performance.
In addition, the entire set of video surveillance cameras connected to a central unit was equipped, the toilets were renovated and a visitor center was created, taking advantage of an existing building that has graphic and photographic documentation and a video projection room.
