Rino’s daycare has to leave the judge: ‘I’m driving everything flat’

After years of wrangling, youth worker Rino Driessen has to leave Bavel with his day care Ariba, the judge ruled on Thursday. With this, the municipality of Breda has been vindicated, which wants the plot of land on the Woestenbergseweg to be given a different destination. Driessen is devastated: “I don’t know anymore.”

Emotions run high on Thursday morning when Rino Driessen hears the judge’s verdict through his lawyer. Anger and sorrow both demand precedence from the selfmade youth worker. Crying, he tries to put it into words.

“I moved into the building uninhabitable and that’s how I will leave it.”

“I don’t know anymore”, a sad Rino sobbs. “I’ll be homeless soon. Now I have to wait for the letter from the municipality when I have to leave. I’m just standing on the street, damn it. Just like my clients. The boys have collapsed and are crying here too. punished so harshly here.”

Then the anger. “The only thing I can do is drive to the town hall and applaud the person who kicked me out,” Driessen continues. “I don’t know how to process it. Only one thing: I moved into the building uninhabitable and that’s how I will leave it. I’m driving everything flat. And yes, I know what I’m saying.”

The ruling in the appeal puts an end to a long-standing conflict between Breda and Rino Driessen. The municipality already canceled the lease last year, but was then called back by the judge. Now, after the appeal, Breda may evict Rino and his Ariba foundation.

“I have to run from war refugees.”

“The motivation is that the building I live in is a commercial building and not a home,” says Driessen. “It apparently doesn’t matter anymore that an alderman promised something different in the past. And because my previous lawyer made a huge mistake, I have now exhausted all legal proceedings.”

The municipality of Breda has been trying for some time with several plans to get rid of Rino Driessen on the Woestenbergseweg. War refugees are probably being housed there now.

“I have to flee from war refugees,” says Driessen. “Whoever does good will be fined here.” The message from the municipality is not long in coming. Driessen now knows that he must be out of the building by September 1.

The municipality of Breda has announced that it wants to help Rino with his move. Places are being sought with other care providers for the young people in the shelter. There are also organizations in the area that can take care of the animals that Rino cares for, says the municipality.

The municipality of Breda wants to start an asbestos survey on 1 September and then demolish the building as soon as possible.
