Russia cannot go unpunished, so it is necessary to continue to provide all kinds of support to Ukraine so that it can protect its sovereignty, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs (JV) emphasized at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels today.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Foreign Ministry), the foreign ministers discussed the Russian war in Ukraine and the strengthening of NATO’s defense and deterrence.
Rinkēvičs said that the planning of NATO’s deterrence and defense architecture must be immediate. In Latvia’s view, the founding act of the NATO-Russia Council has lapsed, so its public revocation is not decisive for Latvia.
Mr Rinkevich also emphasized the need for the international community to reach a meaningful rally at Russia’s negotiating table and an immediate end to the war in Ukraine, which includes a ceasefire and the withdrawal of troops. At the same time, this must not be at the expense of Ukraine’s sovereignty.
At the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, Rinkēvičs supported the need to deploy a permanent NATO force in the Baltic States, taking into account the security situation in the region.
