At the end of the second phase of the Accelerator Future Hub, Rimi Baltic in cooperation with the Norwegian start-up Packoorang has presented an innovative sustainable packaging solution that could be used in the future for waste-free delivery from Rimi e-stores. As part of the Future Hub accelerator, green technology start-ups, together with Baltic market leaders, have developed a series of pilot projects for various sustainability challenges.

Rimi The e-shop operates in all three Baltic countries and we use more than 250,000 paper bags for deliveries every month, which together account for over 130 tons of paper per year. And despite the fact that these bags are completely recyclable, most of them are discarded after a single use. We have a positive experience with the implementation of waste-free initiatives Rimi in stores, but when it comes to e-commerce, such solutions are much more difficult to implement. We started looking for ready-made solutions, but unfortunately none of the products offered met our requirements. So we decided to work with Packoorang to develop an innovative waste-free packaging solution for food supply, ”explains Rimi Baltic Zanda Shadre, Head of Corporate Communications.

This packaging solution allows you to deliver your e-shop purchases in a convenient, flexible and weatherproof bag instead of in paper bags. Packoorang the bag shall be reusable at least 50-100 times, foldable and made of a material approved for the packaging and storage of foodstuffs. The customer will be able to return the used bags to the driver of the e-shop at the next delivery or in the store. After each use and return, the bags will be cleaned to food safety standards.

“In just 10 weeks Future Hub The program has created incredible achievements that lead us to hope that together we can significantly reduce the amount of packaging waste in our e-store. We will continue to develop and refine this product with Packoorangto ensure that the bags are strong enough, durable and easy to use at all stages of delivery, “says Zanda Shadre.

Upon completion of product development, it is planned that Rimi Baltic will implement this waste-free solution in one of its e-shops to try out the bags and gather the first customer feedback. After that, the upgrade is planned to be introduced in all Rimi e-shops.

Packoorang is a fast – growing Norwegian state – owned start – up company from Oslo. The concept of the new company is focused on the production of reusable packaging and the creation of a sustainable circulation system for e-commerce and internal product flow. Packoorang The team has set itself the goal of significantly reducing the environmental impact of transporting goods by replacing disposable packaging with more financially and environmentally sustainable solutions. The start – up is working with global logistics companies such as DHL, Royal Mail, DPD, FedEx u.c.
