Rikki Borgelt opens up about missing father in Best Singers

Rikki’s parents are divorced and are as different as night and day. Yet creativity was instilled in her at an early age. The singer inherited her musical talent from her father. Like Rikki, he played in a band. She has followed in her father’s footsteps.

“He also played in the main hall of Paradiso. We just finished a tour with Rondé and were there too. It is a healing moment to stand in the same place where your father stood.”

Unfortunately, he did not live to see his daughter’s musical success. When Rikki was only 17 years old, he died. “A really rotten age. I was in my senior year and he got sick.” The singer still cherishes all the beautiful moments with her father. “I am very happy that I had him as a father, even if it was only seventeen years. I did have a great father for seventeen years,” she says with tears in her eyes.

Parting

Her father’s illness passed very quickly. He spent his last days in a hospice. “He couldn’t talk anymore. You couldn’t hear his voice anymore. He could only write and watch. We had a really good bond, so all we had to do was look at each other and I knew exactly what he meant.”
