“Rijksmuseum Receives Record-Breaking Anonymous Donation for Garden Sculpture Exhibitions”

NOS News

An anonymous donor has donated 12.5 million euros to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for sculpture exhibitions in the garden. This has been announced by the museum. It is the largest private donation ever to the Rijksmuseum, which depends on partners, funds and private institutions for a third of its income.

The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been supporting the exhibition in the historic gardens since 2013. Since then, freely accessible artist exhibitions have been shown every year, such as works by Louise Bourgeois, Giuseppe Penone and Barbara Hepworth. From Friday, eight works by British landscape artist Richard Long will be on display

According to the museum, the donor finds it important that the gardens remain freely accessible and this is partly possible due to these donations. Earlier, the benefactor – reportedly a lover of nature – also donated about 700 drawings and watercolors of animals and plants. He was also involved in the exhibition Creepsabout the changing way art and science look at insects.
