ROMA – In the perhaps inevitable English title – “Kindness will change the world” – there is immediately the sense of this initiative which aims to be a kind reminder to the whole world. “Kindness will change the world,” so. And it will be precisely this that will be discussed at the XI Assembly of World Kindness Movement which will take place in Palermo from 17 to 20 October, under the patronage of the Sicilian Region. Four days of meetings, with the participation of the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio and the Secretary of the Presidency of the Chamber of Deputies Carolina Varchi. Opportunity for reflections and discussions between Italian and international experts, representatives and inspirers of Movement, coming from all over the world, from Italy to the USA, from Canada to Switzerland, from the United Kingdom to India and up to Nigeria.
Objective: to make kindness a useful tool for society. “We will talk about kindness understood (also) as an antidote to violence – says Natalia Re, president of Italian Kindness Movement – as a support in the repair of conflicts and psycho-social problems and as an indicator of the well-being of a country, capable of influencing its wealth, therefore also affecting the GDP. We will reflect together on how important it is to train and educate ourselves in active kindness for everyone’s well-being.
Restore identity and awareness. THEkindness promotes territories – we read in the note announcing the conference – it restores their identity and awareness and is a tool for recognizing the relationship between man and the environment, understood as a common home, respecting ecosystems. Furthermore, the promotion of an infrastructure policy constitutes another act of kindness, because living in a context in which every type of infrastructure is functioning and functional makes the community in a perfect state of balance and harmony.
Helps productivity and performance. Kindness promotes the harmonious construction of individual identity and, therefore, helps productivity and performance, determining the success of a company. Finally, as some studies show, it can contribute to creating a culture of respect for legality, peaceful coexistence and justice, capable of limiting the proliferation of crimes and offences. “That is, it is not a question – added Natalia Re – of a word or a gesture, but of an antidote to violence. When practiced, kindness has a concrete transformative and generative impact.”
The meetings. Kindness, therefore, in relation to the great issues of our time. On October 18, institutional representatives and experts will discuss the impact that kindness can have on justice, training, communication, infrastructure and healthcare. This will be followed by an international meeting between representatives of the World Kindness Movement with focus on “kindness as a factor of relational and social sustainability” and the following day, the Plenary Assembly of World Kindness Movementin which representatives of all the countries involved will discuss and draft a document to be presented to the Government to propose including kindness among the BES (equitable and sustainable well-being) indicators and to the UN to request the recognition of kindness as a transformative force in the field psycho-social and indicator of the well-being of the Member States, an objective closely linked to the 17 Global Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
Other appointments. Not just meetings, though. To celebrate the World Value Dayon October 19th, will be held The One World Values Walkthe march that will be organized in over 100 nations around the world to celebrate the values of life, one of which is gratitude. Finally, during the four days, Sicilia Gentile will be presented, created by the Italian Kindness Movement intended, first of all, for public administration employees. In the magazine, psychologists, sociologists and pedagogues, day after day, will provide an interpretation to reflect on the main current news.
