Rights Issue BRI Success & Record, Erick Thohir Opens Voice!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) has just completed the process of adding capital with pre-emptive rights (HMETD) or rights issue with the acquisition of funds in full amounting to Rp 96 trillion (including in the form of inbreng government shares).

This achievement makes BBRI’s rights issue the largest corporate action in Southeast Asia and the fifth largest in Asia.

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir appreciated this corporate action because it not only has a national scale, but is also the largest in the region.

The magnitude of this corporate action is considered very large thanks to the results of the formation of an ultra-micro BUMN holding led by BRI and consisting of PT Pegadaian and PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM).

The government absorbed its rights in BBRI shares, but not with cash, but with the government’s Series B shares in Pegadaian and PNM to BRI so that the two SOEs became direct subsidiaries of BRI.

“BRI-Pegadaian-PNM, which yesterday was the seventh largest BRI rights issue in the world and the rights issue was unmitigated, was the biggest success in Southeast Asia. Not Indonesia anymore, Southeast Asia,” said Erick in a virtual webinar, Tuesday (28 /9/2021).

This was successfully achieved thanks to the existing MSME ecosystem in Indonesia which is considered to have the potential to develop big business in Indonesia. Considering that currently there are still many financial customers in Indonesia that have not yet obtained formal financial access.

For this reason, at the G20 event next year, Erick will showcase this concept at the event. How the existence of this holding can provide access to formal finance with low costs and wide range of services.

“So how can ultra micro, micro, MSMEs go up in class and get deepening of financial products, assistance, and empowerment, and increase capabilities,” he added.

To note, in this major rights issue, BRI obtained funds of up to Rp 96 trillion. The government has executed 16.1 billion of its Preemptive Rights on September 13, 2021 through a share of Pegadaian and PNM worth Rp 54.77 trillion. Meanwhile, from the public, BBRI received Rp 41 trillion in funds.

In the first trading session, Tuesday (28/9), BBRI shares fell 1.07% at Rp 3,710/share with a transaction value of Rp 521 billion and the last week’s gain was up 4.20%.
