American actress Busy Philipps was arrested Thursday, June 30, 2022 during an abortion rights protest outside the United States Supreme Court.
The Cougar Town star was seen last Thursday wearing a shirt that read “I will help and encourage abortion.” She was subsequently arrested and taken away by police officers for blocking traffic outside the court building alongside a number of Planned Parenthood leaders.
As she was handcuffed and taken away, Busy Philipps, 43, told reporters she was protesting ‘for equality’. “I can think of no better way to use my privilege and my voice than to amplify the message that bodily autonomy is a human right,” she wrote on Instagram after her release. “For, it is in fact exactly the same as the promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”, can we read in caption of the images.
For her, this demonstration is “an action of peaceful civil disobedience”.
