The saint was born on the finish of the third century in Alexandria. On the age of 28, he was ordained a bishop. He participated within the First Ecumenical Council, held in Nicaea in 325, the place he confirmed himself to be an eloquent orator who defeated the harmful heresy. Due to his religion he was persecuted and spent 15 years in exile.
Within the folks calendar, the vacation is marked as a harbinger of the approaching spring.
