Jansen is stepping down because of the commotion that has arisen within FVD about the youth department JFVD. Members of this are said to have shared anti-Semitic and homophobic messages in chat groups. According to Van der Linden, he already made his decision before party leader Thierry Baudet announced that he would not be the leader.
By giving up his place on the list, Jansen hopes, according to the vice-chairman, to prevent the issue from causing further damage to the party. Baudet has stepped down as party leader because he feels responsible for the course of events, says Van der Linden. It is not yet clear who the party will lead in the elections, he says.
Thierry Baudet makes his position as party leader for Forum for Democracy available for the House of Representatives elections. He does want to remain involved with the party, he said in a video on Twitter on Monday evening.
