On August 12, the annual international triathlon festival will be held in Mežapark, with the start of swimming in Ķīšezer at the pier, cycling along the picturesque roads of Mežapark and the finish of the running stage on the stage of the Song Festival.
Riga Triathlon this year is held in sprint format, which means that you have to swim 750 m, drive 22 km (4 laps), run 5 km (2 laps).
Foreign athletes have taken a liking to Riga, which is evidenced by the consistently high number of participants for juniors. Athletes come to Riga both with the represented sports clubs and families, where parents accompany their athletes and it is observed that there are also brothers and sisters in the support teams. This year, representatives of more than 15 countries have applied for the start.
This year there is a trend that the number of athletes from specific countries will increase, the largest delegation will be from Norway, which will be represented by 10 athletes and accompanying staff, Switzerland – 11, Italy – 6, England – 8, Sweden – 8 representatives. More distant countries are also represented, this year they will be two athletes from Aruba.
One of the strongest European juniors – Martons Kropko from Hungary, who took 2nd place in last year’s Riga Triathlon, will take part in the competition. Marton has shown good results this year, taking second place in the Junior European Cup in Olsztyn. We expect that Martons will be one of the favorites to win the Riga Cup stage.
Among our neighbors, Estonia is the most widely represented with 10 athletes, Lithuania is participating with 6 athletes. Estonian athlete Ger Martins Savitsh is this year’s Estonian champion in the sprint distance.
Latvia will be represented by 4 juniors and 3 juniors. We have high hopes for Mika Meijers from Riga and Beata Bula from Dobel, who has shown a great performance this year and took the high 5th place in the European Junior Cup in Olsztyn.
The first start of the competition is on August 12 at 9.00 for juniors and at 11.30 for juniors. Awarding is scheduled at 13.00 We invite spectators and visitors to Mežapark to be careful during the competition.
