‘Rīga’ takes the lead first, but suffers the eighth loss in a row

“Rīgas” hockey players lost to the Chekhov “Russkije Vitjazi” team with the result 1: 3 (1: 1, 0: 1, 0: 1).

Roberts Petrovičs came close to putting the visiting team one up 15 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but Dāvja Orniņa managed to tip the ball to a corner. The second puck jumped into the home goal from Mika Tumānova’s stick, Ivan Detkov tried to pass in front of the goal – 2: 1 in favor of the guests.

The third goal was scored when the goalkeeper Ēriks Vītols placed the sixth player on the field. Jaroslav Busigins hit the target from his area – 3: 1.

The majority of Rigans were unable to score, although the guests had 14 minutes and the home team four penalty minutes.

In the tournament table, “Riga” is in the 15th place in the Western group with 28 points in 43 matches, but “Russkije Vitjazi” is in the seventh place in the duel with 51 points.

On Friday, the teams will meet again in Riga.

“Riga” took the 13th place in the main conference of the Western Conference last season and did not qualify for the elimination tournament.

After one season in the coaching corps, the head coach has returned to the Riga “Dinamo” team Raimonds Vilkoits.

The calendar of MHL season 13 envisages that each team will play 64 games in the main tournament (32 at home, 32 away). The “Riga” team plays in the Western group, which has 17 teams and only the top eight enter the playoffs.
