Riga St. Imants Kalniņš’s symbolic oratorio ‘Morning Act’ will be performed in St. Peter’s Church

Imants Kalnins this oratorio was created in 1977 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Andrejs Upītis, but the State Academic Choir “Latvija” also participated in its premiere in 1978.

There are three oratorios in the composer’s work and “The Morning Act” is recognized as one of the most outstanding compositions by Imants Kalniņš. is dreaming of a vision of a better world, “the concert organizers write.

One of the most famous parts of the piece is the hymn “Wait for the Hero”, which is regularly sung in a great choir song at the Song Festival and the triumph of the final triumph “The Gates Open!”

Soloists will take part in the oratorio performance – Ilona Bagele (mezzo-soprano), Mārtiņš Zvīgulis (tenor), Rihards Mačanovskis (baritone), as well as two narrators – Ilze Ķuzule-Skrastiņa and Intars Reshetin. The arrangement with the wind orchestra was made by composer Vilnis Šmīdbergs.
