Imants Kalniņš created this oratorio in 1977 in honor of the 100th anniversary of Andrejs Upītis, and the State Academic Choir also participated in its premiere in 1987. Latvia. The composer ‘s work has three oratorios and Morning act is recognized as one of the most outstanding compositions of Imants Kalniņš. Full of expressive melodies, revolutionary ideas, philosophical reflections, as well as imbued with the beauty of Latvian nature. An oratorio that reflects on justice, the turn of the century, and dreams of a vision of a better world.
One of the most famous parts of the piece is the anthem Wait for the hero which is regularly sung in a great choir song at the Song Festival and the triumph of the triumphant final Gate Vera!declaring that “the hour is come, and the old Babylon is fallen.”
Soloists – Ilona Bagele (mezzo-soprano), Mārtiņš Zvīgulis (tenor), Rihards Mačanovskis (baritone), as well as two narrators – Ilze Ķuzule-Skrastiņa and Intars Rešetins will take part in the performance of the oratorio. The arrangement with the wind orchestra was made by composer Vilnis Šmīdbergs.
